Terms for using Textlume
These terms set out the rules for using our website in clear language. They describe our services, accounts and billing, along with your responsibilities and ours.
Who we are
We are a software company based in the United Arab Emirates and run Textlume. These terms are governed by the law of the UAE. References to “we” mean the operator, and references to “you” mean the person using the service.
Using this website means you accept these terms. They apply to the tools, your account, paid plans, word packs and API access.
For questions about these terms or the service, write to support@textlume.com. Dave from our support team will reply within 24 hours.
Who can use Textlume
The service is available to people aged 13 or older. Anyone who has not reached the age of majority where they live must have a parent or guardian's agreement.
The age and consent rules apply to everyone who uses the service. That includes free use without an account.
Meeting the minimum age does not remove the need for consent. You must still have a parent or guardian's agreement if local law does not yet treat you as an adult.
Our tools
Our tools let you check text, rewrite it and count its words and characters. The following tools and access options form part of the service.
- AI text detection.
- Text humanizing and paraphrasing.
- Grammar checking and summarizing.
- Word and character counting.
- Plagiarism checking for paid plans, coming soon.
- Pro includes API access and an MCP server.
Understanding detector results
The detector estimates how our model interprets a piece of text. Its result includes a range and a confidence rating. You can find our measured error rates on the accuracy page.
A result cannot prove how a text came about. Its range and confidence rating describe how our model reads the text. They say nothing certain about the person who wrote it.
A detector result must never be your sole reason for making a decision about someone. This applies to grades, hiring, payment and disciplinary decisions.
We do not promise any particular assessment by another detector or institution. Our result cannot establish the result another service will return or the decision a school, employer or publisher will reach.
Text and ownership
You keep ownership of the text you submit and the output created from it. Neither becomes ours when you use a tool.
Your permission to process your text is limited to carrying out the tool request you make. We neither use it for model training nor sell or share it.
We convert uploaded files to plain text in memory and discard them as part of completing the request. We do not retain the original upload.
The privacy policy explains how we handle your text, your account data and the history of your tool runs.
It is your responsibility to ensure you have permission to submit the text and to decide how to use the output.
Your account
Sign-in is available with an email address and password or through a sign-in service. An account may be used by one person only. You must not share or sell account access, or make it public.
Protect both your password and your email account. Access to them can let someone sign in, so keeping your email secure also helps secure your Textlume account.
Request a data copy or account deletion by emailing support@textlume.com from the address registered to your account. During deletion, we first end any active plan, then remove your data and sign you out of all sessions.
Deleting an account does not issue a refund. Refund requests are a separate step, and the refund policy sets out when and how you can make one.
Using tools for free
You do not need a card to use the free service. Each tool offers a free daily run subject to a word limit. The current limits are listed on the pricing page.
There are no caps on grammar checking or word and character counting. Daily allowances start again at midnight UTC.
We track free usage for each tool and UTC day using a keyed hash of the IP address together with the browser's cookie id. We retain counts for the current day and the previous day. The same method applies to per-minute limits.
Removing the visitor cookie will not restore your free allowance, since the IP hash is also used to track it. Creating multiple free accounts or switching identities to bypass limits is not allowed.
Subscriptions and payments
Basic, Plus and Pro are our paid plans, with monthly, semester and yearly billing options. The semester option covers four months per billing period.
The pricing page lists prices in US dollars. You pay for plans by card using our payment processor. Card details are sent directly to that processor, not to our servers.
Unless you cancel, your plan automatically renews after each billing period at the price then applicable to that plan. Any change to your price requires your acceptance. Automatic renewal does not replace that consent.
Your chosen billing interval stays the same at renewal. A monthly subscription will not switch itself to yearly billing.
Each tool has a separate monthly word allowance, which resets at the start of each billing month.
Word packs are available to every account, including Free. A pack applies to one tool only: the AI detector, humanizer, paraphraser or summarizer. Its words are used once that tool's monthly plan allowance has been used up. Packs expire 12 months after purchase.
Paid plans include a monthly allowance of AI detection words, with the amount set by the plan. Word packs provide additional words. We may restrict unusually high usage to maintain availability for everyone.
Sometimes a second plan gets opened by mistake, for example in another tab. We treat that as a duplicate charge and not as a second purchase. The duplicate is cancelled and its payment refunded automatically.
Changing plans
Your upgrade starts immediately. We charge your card the price difference for the time left in your current paid period.
Your current plan continues until the paid period finishes, when the downgrade begins. Scheduling the downgrade creates no charge or refund.
A plan change may change your refund eligibility. If an upgrade moves you to a different billing interval, its payment is treated as the first payment for that interval. An upgrade that keeps the same interval is not refundable. The refund policy sets out the difference.
Cancelling
There are no conditions for cancellation. You may cancel whenever you choose through the billing page. This prevents the next payment, while keeping your plan available for the rest of the time already paid for.
You may restart renewal before your paid access expires. Your plan will then renew on its previous terms.
Cancellation only stops the next renewal. It does not cut short your remaining paid access, submit a refund request or automatically return money. The refund policy governs any refund you request.
Payment failures
Your plan remains available during attempts to collect an unsuccessful renewal payment. We email you if a card charge fails.
Continued payment failures cause your plan to end. After that, you may select a plan again.
An unsuccessful renewal does not immediately close your plan. Access continues during payment retries and ends if those retries remain unsuccessful.
Getting a refund
You may request a refund without having to justify your reason. For a plan, the request must fall within 14 days after the first payment of each billing interval. Renewal charges are not refundable.
If your upgrade switches billing intervals, you have 14 days to request a refund of the price difference charged. Upgrading without changing the interval does not count as a first payment and is not refundable.
You may request a refund for each word pack within 14 days of buying it. The refund is reduced in proportion to the words you have used.
Cancellation, a downgrade or an unavailable tool does not automatically return a payment. The duplicate-charge exception explained earlier still applies. The refund policy covers the request process, the effect on your plan or word balance, and payment details.
Disputed payments
Starting a chargeback through your bank pauses your plan and stops its renewal.
If the dispute is resolved in our favour, your plan is restored. Automatic renewal remains paused for as long as the dispute keeps the plan on hold.
Challenging a payment through your bank is not the same as asking us for a refund. To request one directly, follow the refund policy.
API access
Only the Pro plan includes API access. Requests draw from the word balances you use on the site, with no additional API word allowance.
Account limits cover active keys, requests per minute, concurrent requests and a monthly abuse ceiling. You can find these limits on the API page. Requests that exceed a limit are rejected with an error.
Use your API key only for yourself and keep it private. You must not share it, sell it or make it public. All requests using that key are charged against your plan.
We retain keys only in the form of salted hashes. The same acceptable use rules govern API requests and site use. This includes the ban on using outputs or the API to train or create a competing model or service.
Rules for use
You must comply with the acceptable use policy. Its main rules prohibit unlawful use, harming others, submitting content or personal data you are not entitled to process, and submitting material that sexualises minors or encourages violence.
Keep the service safe. Attacks, overloading and scraping are not allowed, and neither is getting around a limit. Your account and your API keys are for you alone. Outputs and the API may not be used to train or build a model or service that competes with Textlume.
You are accountable for your use of outputs. This includes following your school's, employer's or publisher's requirements for AI assistance and disclosure. Never base a decision about someone solely on a detector result.
Our materials
We retain ownership of the site, tools and software. These terms grant you permission to use them personally, and that permission cannot be transferred.
Permission to use the service gives you no ownership of its site, tools or software. Nor may you pass that permission to anyone else.
Your own material is treated differently. You keep ownership of the text you provide and the output the tools produce from it.
Service availability
We aim to keep the service operating, but uninterrupted access and error-free operation are not promised. This covers both the website and the API.
We may modify tools, restrict them or temporarily stop providing them. A tool being offered now does not mean it will remain available in the same form.
No automatic refund arises when a tool cannot be used. Refund requests are assessed under the refund policy.
Pausing or ending accounts
You are free to leave the service whenever you choose. If you want your account deleted, email support@textlume.com using the address registered to your account.
Account deletion first ends any active plan, then deletes your data and logs you out of all sessions. Deletion does not issue a refund.
An account may be suspended for a breach of these terms or the acceptable use rules. We will explain the reason. A serious breach, or repeated breaches, may lead to account closure.
Account suspension or closure is different from stopping renewal. To prevent only your next plan payment, cancel through the billing page.
Limits on liability
We accept no liability for indirect losses where the law permits that exclusion.
Where legally permitted, the most we can be liable for in total for any claim is the amount you paid us during the 12 months preceding that claim.
You keep any rights that applicable law does not allow these terms to restrict. The exclusions and liability cap above operate only within the limits that law allows.
Terms updates
We publish changes to these terms on this page with the date they take effect, shown at the top.
Your acceptance is required before a change to your price can apply. Updating these terms or renewing your plan automatically does not replace that acceptance.
Governing law
The law of the UAE applies to these terms, and the courts of the UAE will decide disputes concerning them.
As explained in the liability section, your rights remain protected wherever applicable law prevents them from being restricted. These terms do not take those rights away.
Language versions
Translations are provided for convenience. The binding terms are those written in English.
Where a translation and the English text differ, follow the English text. For help understanding any wording, contact support@textlume.com.
Account emails
We use email for account and plan messages. These cover a welcome on account creation, receipts for starting or paying for a plan, alerts about unsuccessful card charges, and cancellation confirmations.
Account creation also triggers an email with a confirmation link. If you ask to reset your password, we email you a reset link.
Our emails concern your account and plan only. We do not send marketing messages or newsletters.
Get in touch
For help with these terms, email support@textlume.com. That address also handles questions about your account, your plan and using the service.
Dave from our support team replies within 24 hours. For a refund request, use the email address you made the payment with and follow the steps in the refund policy.
